Robert Caro talked about his book The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York, published by Vintage. This program was presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Robert Moses and the Modern City: Remaking the Metropolis” The exhibit at three museums in New York City focuses on the extensive physical transformation of New York City guided by city planner Robert Moses (1888-1981), from 1934 to 1968. Caro detailed some of the great urban landscapes designed by Robert Moses and the costs to the people and neighborhoods of New York City. He talked about how he came to write this book about the power of unelected public authorities. This biography of Robert Moses won a Pulitzer Prize in 1974. During the 1930s, Robert Moses (December 18, 1888July 29, 1981), acting under the title commissioner of parks, not only dotted New York City with hundreds of new parks, playgrounds, and swimming pools, but also permeated much of New York state with his vision of public recreational facilities linked by parkways, causeways, and bridges.
